Thank you for this point. It is meant to be a humorous way of explaining it. I translated this text by Swedish and also felt slightly uncomfortable with that line. It can be seen as patronising.

The author is a qualified psychologist, so is certainly very sympathetic to the people he treats. He wrote the article precisely because he cares about people misled by this type of work. Since we all read texts in different ways (we all have different personalities afterall!) I can relate toyour points about style.
